Coming up with hand-stamped card designs… and what does it mean to “CASE” a card?

Hi Stampers

Have you ever tried to come up with a card idea but just don’t know where to start? Do you know how to find inspiration from others?

Many times you might hear someone talking about “case-ing” a card or idea. What “CASE” means is “Copy And Share Everything”. We Stampers know that sometimes we all might get “stumped” on what we want to create, but very often we share samples with each other…by posting ideas online and through demonstrator swaps.

Sometimes I just a cannot come up with an idea of what to stamp but then I see a great card online. So now, I can maybe copy it exactly (& always give credit to who I got the idea from) or maybe I can change the design a little bit to make it my own…still inspired by the original card, but have made it my own.

Here is a card I came up with by “case-ing” designs from others.

Here is an example of what I am taking about.

I saw another demonstrator (DawnsStampingThoughts.net) share an idea for a “flap over fun fold” card made with Stampin Up’s Foil Frenzy designer series paper. She had certain measurements and created a vertical design.

Another demonstrator, (worldofJenCraft.com) used Dawn’s measurements and ideas to create a similar design, but she changed the paper and the stamp set.

I loved the design as well, so I wanted to create a card to try out a similar design. Dawns card (and Jen’s) was vertical, but I decided to make mine horizontal. I also changed the measurement of the designer series paper ever so slightly. When I “case” a design, I often use retired papers to see how I like it, them I will re-create the design again using current papers.

Well, here is the YouTube links to see Dawn’s card & Jen’s Card.

Here is my “test card”.

If you watched the links you can see their cards are vertical and mine is horizontal.

I hope that helps many people who might wonder what it means to “Case” a card design.

Here is a couple more cards that I “Cased”.

(The “bear” card was a design from quite a few years ago and I do not know who came up with this design).

(This floral card was shared by my upline, Janice Weightman, just about a year ago I think).

These are actually both retired sets now, but they were designs that I liked.

Honestly, I really do like to come up with my own designs, but sometimes I like ideas that are out there that others have shared. Their designs can inspire me and get the creative ideas going.

So, if you are ever “stuck” for ideas, don’t be afraid to “CASE”, just be sure to give credit to who you got the idea from.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

Happy Stamping!

Mary
